The 2008 Sonata/Sonatina Festival was a huge success. Over 200 students registered as instumentalists or vocalists. An increasing number of ensemble groups performed this year as well.

The Senior High Competition included a dozen students with many outstanding performances. Gregory Wang of Johnson City, a student of Dr. Ben Caton, won the competition, playing the piano Sonata No. 2 in B Flat Minor by Rachmaninoff.

Second place in the competition was captured by Lydia Bassett of Rocky Mount, Virginia, a student of

Benedict Goodfriend. She played the violin Concerto No. 4 in D Minor by Viextemps. Third place went to Layla Marshall of Johnson City, a student of Dr. Donald Conflenti, playing the piano Sonata in F Major by Mozart.
