Sonata/Sonatina Festival
November 6 & 7, 2009
Milligan College
Milligan, Tennessee

The Sonata/Sonatina Festival is a musical experience involving young musicians of all ages and levels of proficiency. Students perform before a panel of qualified judges a selected piece in their field of expertise reflecting their training and ambitions as a musician. For 2009, the Festival has expanded, and now offers competition and awards/scholarships in the following categories.

GENERAL REGISTRATION


Friday and Saturday
November 6 & 7, 2009

General registration for the traditional Sonata/Sonatina
Festival is open to all participants. Awards are offered
in two categories.
 

MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

These are a non-competitive awards,
based on recital score sheet submitted by the
judges. Multiple awards are granted.

Eligibilty: Regular Festival participants.
Scholarship awards of $10 to $50.

 

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE

Awards are assigned at the judges' discretion
based on their subjective assessment of student's
musicianship and difficulty of repertoire.
Multiple awards in each division may be granted.

Eligibilty: Regular Festival participants and
ensembles entered at the advanced level.
Awards of $50.

 


OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS RECITAL
Saturday, November 7th

All Ages - All Categories
Recital for outstanding performers named throughout
the Festival of judged events.

SENIOR HIGH COMPETITION


Friday, November 6, 2009
7:00 pm
Seeger Chapel

This is a competitive category with first, second and
third places awarded based on specific scores
assigned by the judges. Participants will perform on
stage in Seeger Chapel in an open recital/concert
format. The competition is open to the public.
 

Eligibility: Participants who are seniors
in high school and enter the general registration
for the Sonata/Sonatina Festival in the
advanced level will be automatically entered
into the Senior High Competition.

First place - $500
Second place - $300
Third place -$100

CONCERTO COMPETITION


Saturday, November 7, 2009
2:00 pm

This is a competitive category. Participants will
perform one movement of a concerto, together
with their accompanist.

Eligibility: Advanced level only, all instruments.
Choose a concerto from the attached list,
or submit a selection for approval.

Winner: The winner of the competition
will have the opportunity to be featured
as soloist with area orchestras in 2010.

ORIGINAL COMPOSITION ADJUDICATION

This is adjudication of original musical compositions.
This is for written scores only; participants
do not perform.

Eligibility: All instruments.
